A Massachusetts housing program now offers up to $25K in interest-free, deferred repayment assistance for certain first-time homebuyers, covering key upfront purchase costs statewide.
The updated assistance can cover down payments, prepaid mortgage insurance, and other closing costs, easing upfront cash needs for eligible buyers in Massachusetts.
Previously, assistance came as 15-yr second mortgages with low-single-digit interest; the new version keeps repayment deferred and interest-free for qualifying buyers statewide.
State housing officials expect the change to help ~1K first-time buyers and save some households up to $31K over the loan life in Massachusetts.
Eligibility began April 27 and runs through July 31, 2026; first-time buyers need a program mortgage and income at or below 135% of area median.
